GFQ’s The View From the Top presents a unique combination of compositions that range from playfully fiery (The View From the Top, Gutted) to insightful, and introspectively solemn (Tricyclic, Breathing Space). Gemma Farrell intertwines her own personal experiences and a strong stance on prevalent social issues with musical concepts, creating a collection of compositions that feel grounded, fresh, and extremely relevant. Farrell demonstrates solid leadership throughout, with an unwavering time feel and a tone that is rich, but gritty when it needs to be. The music is brought to life by Kate Pass, Ryan Daunt, Dan Garner and Sam Hadlow, who each contribute to the shape and progression of each piece through strong musical interaction and sensitivity to Gemma’s direction. At its core, this music is heartfelt and beautiful, and deserves to be heard by as many ears as possible.
