Gemma has penned an album of thoughtful and eclectic pieces which allow us to hear a deeply expressive tone on the horn, or in this case horns. Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone are all featured equally. Each piece is approached as its own entity, both through the story Gemma tells as she plays, and through the carefully considered accompaniment highlighting her skill as an orchestrator, and the skill of the musicians she has surrounded herself with in Amsterdam. There is an underlying soulful expression in the sound, and a feeling of joy and celebration in the music as the ensemble dances from one mood to the next. It’s passionate, makes a personal statement, and makes you want to move!
